Pera Medical Faculty 50th anniversary celebrations

KANDY – Celebrations to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Peradeniya begins on Tuesday 03 (tomorrow).
The celebrations ending on January 07 include an International Conference with participation of eminent medical specialist of Sri Lanka and those representing foreign countries.
In addition to seminars and lectures by medical experts the celebration includes exhibitions of books authored by the products of the Peradeniya Medical Faculty and also the artistic creations of the former and present students of the faculty.
Cultural activities such as drama, music and theatre exhibiting the talents of the alumni and the teachers will be held during period of celebrations, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Gamini Buthpitiya said.
Senaka Bibile orations will be deliverer by Prof. Gamini Buthpitiya on January 04.
Late Prof. Senaka Bibile widely acclaimed Pharmacologist who was responsible for developing a National Drug Policy for developing countries was the first Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Peradeniya, Prof. Gamini Buthpitiya told a media conference.
Among the speakers at the inauguration of the celebrations will be the vice chancellor of the University of Peradeniya Prof. S. B. S. Abeyakoon and the celebrations will be inaugurated by the chancellor of the University Dr. Premadasa Udagama.
Dr. Jagath Jayalath and University’s Public Relations Officer G. M. Godamuna were present at the media briefing.
