The suspension imposed on all Students’ Unions, including the Students’ Union of the Peradeniya University, was lifted with effect from December 31 by the Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University, Professor S.B. Abeykoon.
This was informed to all the Unions in a letter signed by the Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University.
The reprieve however was not without a catch as union members were warned about engaging in violent acts and acts of sabotage within and outside the universities. The letter was copied to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, All Deans of Faculties, the Acting Registrar, Chief Warden and Chief Security Officer of the Peradeniya University.
