Mon, Jan 9, 2012, 09:50 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 09, Colombo: Higher Education Ministry Secretary, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne has said the circular on the salary hikes to the university lecturers in Sri Lanka was prepared and it will be issued on Wednesday (11).
He has added that there was no reason for the university lecturers to launch a strike action since the salary hike circular was ready.
However, the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) has stated that a token strike would be launched by the university lecturers on January 17.
The Chairman of the Federation Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri says that the executive committee of the Federation has decided to hold a token strike in the week beginning from January 16 as an initial action.
The FUTA has charged that the government has failed to implement the interim proposals agreed upon in July last year.
