A
female second year university student, who was trying to flee after
snatching a woman’s gold chain was caught by a group of three-wheeler
drivers in Gampola and handed over to the police.Police said that the suspect student had first threatened the woman with a knife before she snatched the chain. According to the initial police investigations the student had collected some nine lakhs rupees in order to repay a housing loan, obtained from a bank and she had a shortage of Rs.50, 000 for the purpose.
She is living with her disabled father and step-mother alone with small brothers and sisters.
