Jun 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka's universities remained paralyzed for a seventh day today as the discussions between the university non-academic staff union and the Labor Commissioner failed and the Union decided to continue the work stoppage.
Sri Lanka's Inter University Trade Unions Federation held talks with the Commissioner General of Labor today to solve their salary issue, says R.M. Chandrapala, the Co-chairman of the trade union coalition.
However, the discussions failed, the trade union federation announced.
Chandrapala said the Commissioner General of Labor has told them that a final solution could not be granted since the Minister of Labor was in an official tour abroad.
The non-academic staff of the universities has vowed not to suspend the strike until their demands are granted.
The union says every time they strike, politicians promise to address their grievances but nothing happens following the discussions.
