Aug 04, Colombo: An education sector trade union in Sri Lanka has gathered over 100,000 signatures demanding the resignations of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake.
General Secretary of the Ceylon Teacher Services Union (CTSU), Mahinda Jayasinghe said the petition demanding the resignations of the two ministers has been signed by people in several districts.
He said the petition has so far been signed by people from Colombo, Gampaha, Ratnapura and Kurunegala districts and it would be taken to the Kegalle, Kandy and Embilipitiya districts next week.
According to Jayasinghe, there has been a good response for the petition since people were disgruntled with the failure of these two ministers to address the issues in the education sector, especially the controversy surrounding the Z-scores of last year's GCE Advanced Level examination.
He charged that the Z-score issue has now pushed the people to the limit of their patience due to the impact it has had on thousands of students.
